The Kimono Kapsule celebrates handcrafted hats paired with the beauty and imperfections of a vintage kasuri kimono, hand woven in the early 1900s. The kimono, sourced from Japan, is made of thick ramie textiles utilizing the ikat method of resist-dying. I deconstructed the kimono to craft unique hatbands for each hat in the collection. You’ll find intriguing details on each band, including shashiko stitching, patches, wear marks, fraying, etc. I’ve chosen to lean into these details and use them to inspire the design of each band. The hats are 100x rabbit fur felt in dress weight. I hope you love the finished product as much as I do, and find one to call your own.
