You're a hat company, why footwear?

I’m glad you asked. The simple answer is, why not? The more detailed answer will follow. My wife, Anna and I were on our honeymoon in Italy when I decided I wanted to resign from my corporate job. We had just found an awesome hat shop where I’d bought a new one for my collection and as we walked out I said to Anna, “all I want to do is own my own shop and sell hats and shoes.” A few months later, I resigned, dabbling in a few things to pay the bills, and began my journey toward entrepreneurship. I taught myself how to make hats over the course of about two years and then finally opened Mad Patti Hat Co.. There is still plenty to do on that side of the business but when there’s something I want to accomplish, that thought just nags at me. So the notion of MPHCo. offering both hats and footwear has never gone away. Over the last year I have been working on making footwear a reality for the business and this is the first, pun intended, step. Our Friction Boot 1.0 will hopefully be the first of many footwear drops you’ll see from us. We want to start with one thing and make sure the feedback is great. The caveat is that I am absolutely obsessed with making hats, so my makers focus will continue to be in that silo of the business. I will design all the footwear myself but we have partnered with incredible artisans in Spain for the production end of things.
